Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies were expected to address the recently signed agreement between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during their political engagements on Sunday. However, at a church service in Kitengela, Kajiado County, they carefully sidestepped the topic, choosing instead to focus their attacks on the president.
The service at ACK Diocese of Kajiado Holy Trinity Church-Kitengela was hosted by Kajiado Senator Seki Lenku and attended by several leaders, including Nyandarua Senator Methu, Embakasi North MP Gakuya, Juja MP Koimburi, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara, Tetu MP Wandeto, and former Laikipia MP Cate Waruguru, among others.

Avoiding the Raila-Ruto Agreement
Despite the heightened political tension surrounding the agreement signed on Friday, neither Gachagua nor his allies mentioned it directly. Many had anticipated a fiery reaction from the former DP, particularly against Raila Odinga, but instead, the brigade shifted their attacks solely to President Ruto.
Senator Seki Lenku accused Ruto of lying to Kajiado residents about development projects, particularly the sewage system, roads, and access to clean water, which he had promised to deliver within two years. “Up to now, nothing has been done,” the senator lamented.
Gachagua himself criticized the president’s affordable housing project, arguing that Kitengela residents had made it clear that their priority was water and infrastructure, not houses. “All of you have homes, and you told the president what you needed, but instead of delivering, he is still insisting on building houses,” Gachagua said.
“Wherever Ruto Goes, He Brings Problems”
In a sharp remark, Gachagua accused the president of causing trouble wherever he goes, citing the recent Jesus Winner Ministry church visit, where Ruto donated KSh 20 million. According to the former DP, the donation sparked outrage, with citizens even threatening to hold demonstrations outside the church.
“Canon, if you invite the president here, be ready to be protected by the GSU,” Gachagua warned the church leader.
He also condemned the government’s crackdown on protesters, claiming that over 38 innocent Kenyans had been arrested for participating in demonstrations.
Is Gachagua Eyeing an Alliance with Raila?
While the avoidance of direct attacks on Raila Odinga might seem like a strategic decision, it has raised questions about Gachagua’s future political ambitions. Could he be keeping the door open for a potential alliance with the ODM leader?
For now, Gachagua’s main focus remains on removing Ruto from power. “Politics is a game of numbers, and we have the numbers,” he declared. “Very soon, we will start the campaigns, and this person will go home.”
Adding fuel to speculation, he announced that he would be launching his own party soon, with its chairman coming from Kajiado.
As political dynamics continue shifting, one question lingers: Is Rigathi Gachagua preparing for a future partnership with Raila Odinga? Only time will tell.
