While many Kenyans spent Mashujaa Day attending national celebrations or enjoying the public holiday, Kahawa Sukari Ward MCA aspirant Janet Wambui Kimiti chose to mark the day in a special and meaningful way, by giving back to the community.

On Sunday, 20th October, shujaa Janet organized a community social responsibility initiative where she, together with a group of close friends, visited Christ Our Refuge Centre for Destitute Children in Mwihoko 160. The center offers a home and education to needy children, providing them with hope and stability amid life’s challenges.

The group joined the children from early morning, dedicating their Mashujaa Day to serving and spending time with them. They took part in planning and preparing meals for the day, with men taking charge of cooking ugali and helping with chapati while the ladies prepared other dishes. Later, everyone gathered to share the delicious meal in a warm and joyful atmosphere.

Beyond sharing food, Janet and her team engaged the children in fun games, devotion, and inspiring conversations. The smiles on the children’s faces reflected the impact of the visit, a day filled with laughter, love, and the feeling of being cared for.

Speaking during the visit, shujaa Janet emphasized the importance of compassion and community involvement.

“Mashujaa Day is about celebrating heroes, and today, these children are our heroes. It’s our responsibility as a community to show them love and support,” she said.

Janet, known for her active role in community empowerment and health advocacy, added that she plans to continue organizing similar initiatives to uplift the less fortunate in society.

Acts like this remind us of the importance of social responsibility — building stronger communities through kindness, togetherness, and service to others. When leaders and citizens come together to support vulnerable groups, they nurture a sense of belonging and inspire hope for a better future.

The event not only brightened the children’s day but also demonstrated the power of unity and compassion — true marks of what being a shujaa means.
