Murang’a County – Sunday, May 25, 2025 – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on musicians who recently visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at his Karen residence, accusing them of betrayal and demanding a public apology.
Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kihoya in Kangema Constituency, Gachagua said the visit by the artists was a calculated political move to mislead the public. He claimed the musicians received a KSh 50,000 “bribe” each to switch allegiances, asserting that the act had offended not only him but the Mt. Kenya community at large.
“I consulted with elders, and we agreed that these musicians must apologize to the people. If they don’t, the community should boycott their music, stop attending their events, and unfollow them on social media,” Gachagua said, emphasizing that the entertainment industry should stop inviting the artists to perform until they make amends.
His remarks appeared to directly respond to gospel musician Ngaruiya Junior, who recently ditched Gachagua’s side, citing frustrations. Ngaruiya claimed he switched sides after realizing Gachagua was against endorsing musicians for political office.
In a sharp rebuttal, Gachagua dismissed Ngaruiya’s ambitions, calling him unqualified for leadership. “Ngaruiya Junior is a Class 2 dropout. How can he represent our people in Parliament? That’s the mistake we’ve made before—electing unqualified leaders who’ve cost our region dearly. I won’t let that happen again,” he said, going further to ridicule the artist’s command of English.
Turning to national politics, Gachagua also criticized President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing them of attacking his Democratic Consciousness Party (DCP) during a recent tour in Kakamega. He alleged that the UDA is threatened by the growing influence of DCP.
“UDA is a dead party. No one is left. They are threatening to expel people, but we are not scared,” Gachagua declared, stating that DCP is working towards securing over 130 MPs in the next Parliament. “With numbers, we will have the power to stop any future political injustice—like what happened to me,” he added.
After the service, Gachagua made several stopovers in Murang’a and Nyeri counties, where he received enthusiastic greetings from locals.
