In a dramatic turn of events that could shake the political landscape of Kenya, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence, dropping a series of explosive allegations against President William Ruto. In what appears to be a direct response to the president’s recent press interview in Mt Kenya, Gachagua did not hold back—accusing the head of state of corruption, betrayal, and political intimidation.
The once-powerful duo that fronted the Kenya Kwanza alliance is now at open war.
In a startling revelation, Gachagua claimed that President Ruto tried to bribe him to resign from office. He says he refused—and he has a recording to prove it.
“Yes, I have it,” Gachagua said defiantly. “The president told me to resign. He even offered me 2 billion. But I refused.”
The Farouk Kibet Factor
One of the key points of friction, according to the former DP, is the influence of State House operative Farouk Kibet. President Ruto, during his Mt Kenya interview, accused Gachagua of picking fights with junior staff, specifically mentioning Farouk. But Gachagua countered with a bombshell of his own—claiming that Farouk is not just a staffer, but a shadow president.
“Farouk is the co-president of this nation,” Gachagua said. “Many top government officials report directly to him. And worse, he was asking for money from people just to access my office.”
According to Gachagua, when he raised these concerns with the president, Ruto simply responded: “He is part of those who struggled to form this government. Let him eat.”
Justin Muturi and the Dubai Scandal
Gachagua also dragged the former Attorney General Justin Muturi into the fray—praising him for standing firm against alleged corruption. He cited an incident in Dubai where Muturi reportedly refused to sign documents he suspected were linked to a money laundering scheme. Gachagua claims he had to step in several times to shield Muturi from the president’s fury.
“Muturi was not with them,” he declared. “He refused to be part of his shady dealings.”
Fertilizer and Affordable Housing: Tools for Enrichment?
The former Deputy President leveled further accusations involving the Russian-donated fertilizer. According to him, the fertilizer meant to support Kenyan farmers was hijacked by the president and his allies and sold back to the government at a profit.
He also tore into the flagship affordable housing project, claiming it’s a cash cow for Ruto and his business partner, Devki.
“They’re making billions,” Gachagua said. “This is not a housing plan—it’s a looting plan.”
In another eyebrow-raising claim, Gachagua said he was used to invite Sudanese leader Hemeti, who, he alleges, works with President Ruto to funnel Sudanese gold through Nairobi. He also linked the president to a joint hotel venture in Mombasa with the president of Kosovo—Dolphins Hotel.
Perhaps the boldest political message came when Gachagua declared that Mt Kenya has abandoned the UDA party.
“We sell everything, but not our votes,” he proclaimed. “The people who attended Ruto’s event were paid. That was not genuine support. The mountain is gone.”
Gachagua accused the Nairobi governor of sending goons to disrupt his Sunday church service at Kasarani, alleging plans to silence him through fear and threats. He claimed his former MP threatened to attack his Wamunyoro home, and his ex-PA planned an assault on his Nyeri businesses.
Despite all this, he urged the youth not to be used by politicians for cheap handouts.
He also addressed the growing “Ruto Must Go” slogan, clarifying that it is a democratic protest against poor governance—not a call for a coup, as suggested by General Kahariri.
“Ruto will be removed democratically.” He said
Conclusion: Kenya at a Crossroads
The war of words between President Ruto and former Deputy Gachagua has escalated into one of the most dramatic political showdowns in recent history. With explosive allegations flying from both sides, and with the Mt Kenya region appearing more divided than ever, one thing is clear: the 2027 race has already begun.
