Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, urging him to stop sending young politicians to insult former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Speaking during an interview on Weru TV, a Meru-language station, Gachagua said he is well aware that the attacks directed at Uhuru by several politicians close to the president are not coincidental.
“I know how he operates,” Gachagua said, referring to President Ruto. “The young politicians insulting Uhuru have been sent.”
Among those who recently attacked the former president are MPs Oscar Sudi, Silvanus Osoro, and Didmus Barasa, accusing Uhuru of inciting the youth against the current government.
Gachagua, who once served as Ruto’s principal deputy, advised the president to personally address any grievances he has with Uhuru Kenyatta instead of using intermediaries. “If you have a problem with the former president, face him directly,” Gachagua said. “Stop sending young politicians to hurl insults.”
During the interview, Gachagua revealed that he had personally apologized to Uhuru Kenyatta for not listening to his warnings in the past. He pledged to continue apologizing, admitting that Uhuru had tried to caution the Mt. Kenya region about their political choices but his advice was ignored.
“Uhuru warned us, but we refused to listen. Today, we can all see the truth,” Gachagua said, calling on Mt. Kenya residents to heed his current advice just as they should have heeded Uhuru’s.
Gachagua did not mince his words regarding President Ruto’s leadership, declaring that Ruto is “not a good president” and should “go home.”
On the allegations raised by internal security CS Kipchumba Murkomen that he and former Attorney General JB Muturi could face prosecution for allegedly leaking sensitive government information, Gachagua stood firm.
“If exposing corruption is giving out sensitive information, then I am ready to be prosecuted,” he said.
Looking to the future, Gachagua assured the public that efforts are underway to build a formidable coalition aimed at unseating Ruto. He confirmed that he is working with other political heavyweights including Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua.
“All of us want to be president,” he said, “but we will agree on who is the best candidate to face William Ruto.”
Gachagua also hinted that he might be on the ballot himself, noting that his pending court case does not rule out his chances.
As political realignments begin to take shape, Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks mark a significant escalation in the growing rift between him and his former boss.
