Political realignments appear to be taking shape in the Mt Kenya region after Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria hinted that he could soon work with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement shared on his official X account, the former Cabinet Secretary acknowledged Gachagua’s growing influence in the region, describing him as the “soon to be the undisputed kingpin of Mt Kenya.” Kuria admitted that the former Deputy President commands massive support among the mountain electorate, placing him ahead of other regional leaders.
“To my brother Rigathi Gachagua. I am an honest man. By now you know that. It is an undeniable fact that majority of our Mt Kenya people listen to you. You are ahead of the rest of us. You are edging closer to be our undisputed Kingpin in the Mountain,” Kuria wrote.
“In fact, just like Gideon Moi and William Ruto are working together, I might consider working with you very soon. I have only one humble request. Kindly refrain from insulting our leaders in general, our women leaders in particular and all Mt Kenya women by extension. Doesn’t really sound commensurate with your undisputed kingpin status. Kindly sir. With profound respect!”
Kuria’s message came shortly after Gachagua, during a United Opposition tour in Embu, made controversial remarks about Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, accusing them of being used by President William Ruto to divide the Mt Kenya region. Gachagua reportedly said the two governors “hawana akili,” remarks that sparked outrage among women leaders and their supporters.
By acknowledging Gachagua’s leadership while calling for mutual respect among leaders, Kuria’s post has fueled speculation about possible political realignments in the Mt Kenya bloc. His statement suggests a softening stance toward the former Deputy President, despite their previously strained relationship.
Observers say the move could signal early groundwork for a broader Mt Kenya coalition as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The big question now remains — will Moses Kuria be joining the emerging United Opposition alliance led by Rigathi Gachagua?
