Stephen Kigathi Kionywe, an aspirant for the Kikuyu constituency parliamentary seat, and a devoted supporter of both H.E. Rigathi Gachagua and the DCP party has issued a rallying call for unity within the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) as the country heads toward the next general election.
Speaking in a recent address at a Kiambu County DCP aspirants at the DCP Party headquarters in Lavington, Kigathi urged fellow aspirants not to allow competition for party tickets to divide them, stressing that the ultimate goal should be defeating opponents aligned with the government. Drawing from the wisdom of “the great Shanzu” and citing the “48 Laws of Power,” he emphasised that political battles require strategy, discipline, and solidarity.
Kigathi gives an example of Livondo and Mwathi vying for Limuru constituency parliamentary seats, and also mentions his opponent, Owen Ndung’u, also vying for the Kikuyu Constituency parliamentary position. “Our contest is not against each other but against those in government. We must remain united even when we seek the same seat. It is saddening to see and hear aspirants facing attacks from their competitors within the same DCP party, which raises questions whether some aspirants in the party may be moles from the enemy side to bring chaos and disorder,” Kigathi said.
Surveyor Kigathi also underlined the principle of equality among DCP aspirants. He maintained that all candidates stand on the same platform and that it is the electorate who should decide their preferred leaders during nominations. By reinforcing the role of the voter, he positioned himself as an advocate for fairness in a political environment often criticised for favouritism and imposed candidates.

In a notable appeal, Surveyor Kigathi called on DCP party leaders to maintain neutrality and give the people the space to choose their leaders during the party nominations. “Let the voters decide who carries the party flag, because their interests carry the day,” he remarked.
The statement has been interpreted by political observers as a reflection of Kigathi’s visionary and principled leadership. His insistence on internal unity, democratic fairness, and respect for voters signals a departure from divisive politics and underscores his commitment to building stronger party structures.
Beyond the immediate contest in Kikuyu constituency, Surveyor Kigathi’s clarion call resonates with a wider theme of strengthening internal party democracy. His message positions him not only as an aspirant but also as a leader concerned with the long-term health and unity of the DCP.
As campaigns intensify, his approach could set him apart. Rather than focusing solely on personal ambition, he has chosen to champion collective responsibility, fairness, and strategy. These are qualities that observers say could define his political journey.
For voters in Kikuyu, Surveyor Kigathi’s message may be a signal of the kind of leadership he seeks to bring: one rooted in integrity, vision, and service. Whether this will translate into electoral success remains to be seen, but his call for unity has already sparked conversation about the kind of politics Kenyans deserve.
