KIKUYU, October 17, 2025 — Kikuyu Constituency MP aspirant Surveyor Stephen Kigathi Kionywe on Saturday joined residents of VET, KEFRI, and KARI areas at Kandengwa Primary Grounds to mourn and stand in solidarity over the passing of Kenya’s fallen hero, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
The emotional event brought together Kenyans from all walks of life and communities, united in grief and reflection. Speaker after speaker paid glowing tribute to the late Raila Odinga — a man widely regarded as a champion of democracy, justice, and national unity.
In a symbolic gesture of inclusivity, mourners were invited to eulogize Baba in their own languages, underscoring his status as a truly national figure who transcended tribe and region.
Addressing the crowd, Surveyor Kigathi Kionywe delivered a heartfelt tribute:
“His passing has left an indelible mark on our nation. As we mourn, we also celebrate a life devoted to democracy, justice, and equality. Baba’s courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the freedom of all Kenyans will forever remain etched in our hearts.”
The unity, warmth, and love witnessed among the people painted a vivid picture of Raila Odinga’s lifelong impact on millions across generations.
Surveyor Kigathi was accompanied by Hon. Mutonya, MCA aspirant for Sigona Ward, and Hon. Wamwea, both of whom joined him in consoling the bereaved and reflecting on Raila’s enduring legacy.
In his remarks, Kigathi also urged young people to honor Raila’s memory through active civic participation, especially by registering as voters ahead of the next election.
“As we reflect on his legacy, let us carry forward his dream of a united, just, and prosperous nation. May his spirit continue to inspire generations to come,” he concluded.
The event at Kandengwa served as a reminder that the ideals Raila Odinga lived and fought for — democracy, equality, and national unity — remain alive in the hearts of many Kenyans, including the next generation of leaders like Surveyor Kigathi Kionywe.
