Kiambu Level V Hospital and the County Department of Health have moved to clarify and dismiss allegations circulating on social media regarding the handling of a sensitive maternal case at the facility.
A viral post claimed that a woman admitted to the hospital’s Acute Ward 2 had been carrying a decomposing baby for five days without receiving medical intervention. The post further alleged that the earliest the woman could be operated on was “tomorrow,” sparking outrage and concern among the public. It also contained personal information about the patient, raising privacy concerns.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the hospital management described the claims as “false and misleading,” stressing that patient confidentiality had been breached and that the online speculation only served to cause additional distress to the grieving family.
Clarifying the Timeline
According to the hospital, the patient arrived on the evening of Monday, August 11, 2025, after noticing no fetal movements for three days while at home. Upon admission, preliminary investigations confirmed an intra-uterine fetal death — a situation that, while considered an emergency, requires careful medical management to protect the mother’s health.
“The medical team is undertaking a series of necessary tests to determine the safest delivery method,” the statement read. “The mother’s well-being remains our primary focus.”
Hospital Defends Track Record
The hospital emphasized that the patient was not neglected and that treatment was being administered in line with established medical protocols. It further highlighted its strong maternal safety record, noting zero maternal deaths in the past seven months.
Elias Maina, CECM Health for Kiambu County, urged the public and online content creators to refrain from spreading unverified information.
“We respectfully urge bloggers to avoid sensationalizing sensitive cases. This is a time for compassion, not misinformation,” Maina stated.
Ongoing Care and Public Assurance
The hospital reassured the public that the patient, along with all others in its care, is receiving comprehensive medical attention.
Kiambu Daily News will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
