Residents of Kahawa Sukari Ward and its neighboring areas received free medical services on Saturday, 20th September, during a health camp held at Ndiini Primary School in Kahawa Sukari, Ruiru Sub-County, Kiambu County.
The event, organised by the Kirinyaga Kahawa Sukari Welfare Association in partnership with Lions First Sight Eye Hospital, offered free eye check-ups, diabetes screening, and blood pressure monitoring, among other health services. Vulnerable community members, including children and young people, turned up in large numbers, making the camp a success with attendance above average.
Cases requiring specialized treatment, such as cataracts, were not handled on-site but referred to Lions Hospital or Gatundu Level 5 Hospital for further management, ensuring that patients in need of advanced care were well guided.

One of the key figures behind the success of the camp was Janet Wambui Kimiti, an aspiring MCA for Kahawa Sukari Ward who has consistently shown interest in health-related matters. As the Chairperson of Community Health Workers, Janet played a central role in the planning of the camp and was actively present during the activities, overseeing operations and engaging with residents.
Speaking during the event, Janet reaffirmed her commitment to championing better healthcare access and preventive measures within the community.
“We will continue supporting our people. Good health is very important for their well-being, and we hope to conduct more of these activities to give back to society,” she said.
Janet’s involvement in the initiative further underscores her advocacy for improved healthcare services and her dedication to the welfare of Kahawa Sukari residents. Her leadership continues to inspire confidence as she seeks to bring more accessible, community-centered solutions to the ward.
The camp not only provided immediate medical support but also created awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups, setting the stage for similar impactful initiatives in the future.
