Embakasi North Constituency is once again making headlines, largely due to the presence of the massive Dandora Dumpsite, which occupies a significant portion of land in the area. The constituency comprises five wards: Kariobangi North and Dandora Phase 1, 2, 3,
With 4, and 5 which is one ward.
The current Member of Parliament, Hon. James Gakuya, has announced his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections, leaving the Embakasi North parliamentary seat wide open and highly competitive.
As of now, five active aspirants have stepped forward:
1. Kinyua Wairatu – A real estate businessman and former shoe cobbler from Dandora Phase 5. He has quickly gained grassroots support and is currently viewed as the early frontrunner in the race.
2. Harrison Wangoro – A former matatu operator who is now serving in a government position. He brings strong ties to the local transport sector.
3. Jane Muringe – A committed ODM loyalist and a current employee of the Nairobi County Government. She is expected to galvanize the ODM base.
4. Allan Maina – The sitting MCA for Dandora Phase 1, known for his active community engagement and solid support in his ward.
5. Silas Matara Ongwae – The current Ward Two MCA, bringing youthful energy and a fresh perspective to the race.
With the political tempo rising, Embakasi North is fast becoming one of the most closely watched battlegrounds heading into the 2027 general elections. While all candidates are actively mobilizing their bases, Wairatu appears to be taking an early lead thanks to his deep community roots, rags-to-riches background, and a growing reputation in the real estate sector.
Stay tuned as the race continues to evolve in one of Nairobi’s most dynamic constituencies.
