15th May 2025, Nairobi – In a bold move to bridge the tech talent gap in Africa, Dimewise, a dynamic social enterprise committed to sustainable social change, officially launched the Novus Africa Mentorship Program at Rainbow Towers in Westlands, Nairobi. This first-of-its-kind initiative is designed to nurture entrepreneurial skills, mentor young innovators, and promote financial empowerment through technology-driven solutions.
The landmark event brought together a diverse and influential group of participants, including government representatives, policymakers, legal experts, industry leaders, software developers, and forward-thinking panelists. These experts not only inspired the mentees but also challenged them to reimagine innovation in Africa’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The program’s panel of mentors featured:
• Francis Okwara, Senior Innovation Officer at the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KENIA)
• Jerome Okot, a seasoned Cybersecurity Expert
• Victor Malomber, Co-founder of Access Hub Africa (Ahainnovate)
• Sharon Leah, Software Engineer at Namadgi Technologies International
• Kat Bury, CEO of Human Edge (joining virtually from abroad)
Guided by energetic event moderator TJ Enos Airo, the panelists shared their personal journeys in the tech world, discussed the opportunities and challenges in the industry, and offered actionable advice to the young mentees eager to break into the sector.
One mentee, Stephen, who studied finance but found himself working in web management, asked how he could transition into tech more smoothly. The panel offered valuable insights. Victor Malomber encouraged him to identify a societal problem he could solve with tech, focus on learning relevant skills, and understand his purpose in making the switch. Sharon Leah emphasized the power of personal branding, urging Stephen to build a visible online presence as a web developer and engage actively with relevant communities.
The highlight of the event was the official opening of the Novus Africa Mentorship Program 2025 by Mr. James Gachiri, Director at Dimewise. Mr. Gachiri expressed his optimism about the program’s impact and revealed that plans are underway for a graduation ceremony for the participants once they finish the program.
“This program is about more than mentorship. It’s about building a future where African tech solutions come from within Africa. We are proud to be laying the foundation for the next generation of tech experts,” said Mr. Gachiri.
With its blend of inspiration, knowledge sharing, and practical guidance, the Novus Africa Mentorship Program is set to become a key driver of technological transformation on the continent. It marks the beginning of a new era where young African minds are equipped and empowered to create homegrown solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.
