Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, has honored a promise he made during the burial of comedian Zacharia Kariuki, popularly known as Mr KK Mwenyewe.
Mr KK Mwenyewe, known for his witty skits and impersonations, was laid to rest on 23rd July 2025 in Githirioni, Lari, Kiambu County, following a memorial service held at Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road. Itumbi, who attended the memorial and burial ceremonies, played a central role in coordinating support from national leaders to give the comedian a dignified send-off.
During the memorial, Itumbi publicly announced various contributions from top government officials and well-wishers, including a donation of Ksh 1 million from President William Ruto. True to his word, Itumbi personally delivered the contributions to the family at Mr KK Mwenyewe’s home, just a day before the burial.
But Itumbi didn’t stop there. Moved by the deep friendship between KK Mwenyewe and fellow comedian Kafengo, he made a public commitment to support Kafengo’s journey in the creative industry. On Monday, 29th July 2025, Itumbi fulfilled that promise.
Taking to his social media platforms, Itumbi revealed that he had officially brought Kafengo and his videographer, Mike—who was also KK’s videographer—on board to work with his office. In his announcement, he praised Kafengo’s intelligence and academic background, noting:
“Met Kafengo, a very solid guy with a sharp mind.
Did you know he holds a degree in Mathematics with Computing?
Watch out for that algebra-level precision as he helps mobilize, empower, and solve real issues in the content creation space.”
Itumbi further noted that Kafengo and Mike would be working to build new platforms within the Creative Economy Coordination office and would, for the time being, share his salary as part of the onboarding process. The duo will also be free to continue their independent content creation hustle alongside their new responsibilities.
This move has been widely praised across social media, with many lauding Itumbi for not only honoring his word but also empowering young creatives in memory of KK Mwenyewe.
As Kafengo and Mike begin their new journey, the legacy of Mr KK Mwenyewe lives on—not just through his timeless content, but also through the opportunities now being opened for the next generation of content creators.
