The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), under the leadership of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, today issued a strongly worded statement following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting, which focused on strengthening party organs, preparations for the November by-elections, and national security, culminated in a series of far-reaching resolutions.
Strengthening Party Structures
The NEC resolved to enhance two key organs of the party—the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC)—as the DCP gears up for the November 27, 2025 by-elections. These organs, Gachagua said, will ensure fair and transparent internal processes while upholding democratic governance and defending Kenya’s sovereignty.
By-Elections and Opposition Unity
With one senatorial, six parliamentary, and 17 ward seats up for grabs, DCP confirmed it will field candidates nationwide but also support agreed candidates under the United Opposition framework.
- In Mbeere North Constituency, DCP will back the Democratic Party (DP) candidate.
- In Muumbuni Ward, the party will rally behind the Wiper candidate.
- In Kabuchai/Chwele Ward, Bungoma County, DCP will support the DAP-K candidate.
“All other positions will have DCP candidates, but even as we compete, we shall respect our opposition partners,” the NEC noted.
To coordinate campaign efforts, the party also announced the creation of a fully equipped Electoral Secretariat based at its headquarters.
Sharp Attack on Ruto over Security in Mandera
The NEC statement sharply criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of failing to protect Kenya’s sovereignty following the reported presence of a foreign Jubaland militia in Mandera County.
“This is not just a policy mis-step; it is a national betrayal,” Gachagua declared. “Kenya is not for sale. Not an inch of our soil shall ever be occupied by foreign powers.”
Citing Articles 1, 238, and 241 of the Constitution, the party leader said the presence of foreign militia violates Kenya’s sovereignty and international law. The DCP demanded immediate action, including:
- The flushing out of Jubaland and other foreign militias from Mandera.
- Reopening of schools shut due to insecurity, with proper security guarantees.
- Allowing the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to fully execute its mandate without interference.
In a direct attack on the President, Gachagua warned:
“If you cannot defend the Republic of Kenya from foreign invasion, and given your bloody track record over the last three years, you know the honorable thing to do—resign before the 2027 embarrassment that awaits you.”
Commitment to Justice and Unity
The DCP reaffirmed its commitment to justice, fairness, and accountability, vowing to remain steadfast in protecting Kenya’s sovereignty while working with opposition partners ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Kenya’s freedom was never given to us; it was fought for. We must defend it at all costs,” Gachagua concluded.
